KajaFax Announcement: Fake Social Media Accounts

February 10, 2014

Today we have a change to what was the scheduled post.

KajaFax have been contacted by Limahl regarding some fake ‘Twitter’ and ‘Facebook’ accounts that profess to be official, and he has asked us to clarify the situation regarding him, the band, and social media accounts.

fake accounts!

Two particular accounts are currently active on the social media sites Twitter and Facebook that we feel should be brought to the attention of all fans.

Neither page is in any way official or affiliated with the band although both imply that they are – in the case of the twitter account actually claiming to be so.

The Twitter account is @KajagoogooKaja and can be viewed HERE .

The ‘Limahl’ Facebook account can be viewed HERE.

KajaFax can confirm following clarification by the band themselves that both accounts are in no way official, and are probably the result of well meaning or over enthusiastic fan(s).

Please be aware that any news published on-line via these unofficial accounts is not necessarily accurate as it is not from an official source.

The only source of official band news is via the official sites of Kajagoogoo, Limahl, Nick Beggs and of course via us here at KajaFax.

Thanks for reading KajaFax and offering your continuing support to Kajagoogoo!

Limahl on TV: ‘How Not To Live Your Life’

January 27, 2014
tags: ,

Our update for today is a bit of a curiosity.  Moving away from music (as we sometimes do), we have something that will, for many at least, be new.  First of all, rewind to 2010….Limahl was approached by the BBC to feature in their sitcom ‘How Not To Live Your Life’ and made an appearance in the opening episode of the second series of the popular show.

clip

Here is what the BBC have to say about the episode:

“Sitcom about 20-something Don, a man with bad luck and even worse instincts.  Don’s overactive imagination is always in full flow in the form of quick-fire fantasy sequences as he imagines what he would really like to say.  With Abby gone for six months, Don wants a stripper to move into the spare room but Eddie insists on a mature student he met.  They take the two girls out to an 80s themed restaurant called the ‘Nineteen Eaties’ to test which one would be most suitable….”

There’s nothing more for us to add to that except sit back and enjoy the show!  See you next time!

Limahl – Colour All My Days Indonesian Issue Cassette Album

January 10, 2014

Today we want to share with you a very odd item indeed.

Anybody who had parents that worked overseas in the 1980’s may well have seen many similar cassette tapes as the one we feature today, usually, although not exclusively, originating from Saudi Arabia.

Although similar in presentation, this tape is actually a supposedly officially licensed Indonesian product.

Front  Back

We all know Limahl’s second album, Colour All My Days, and are more than familiar with the songs upon it.  It seems that ‘GL Records’ (not to be confused with Gold Legion from the USA) are not so familiar with Limahl and his work, as this album has a very peculiar track listing!

GL a.k.a. ‘Golden Lion’, are an Indonesian bootleg label releasing unofficial cassette tapes (and later CD’s) aimed at the South East Asian market.

Housed in a clamshell type lined box (a bit like a ‘mini version’ of a rental VHS video box), the cassette proudly bears the logo of Golden Lion Records and their slogan – “The Ultimate Recording”.

Ultimate or not, the Indonesian Colour All My Days does have something extra that the EMI release in the UK did not, namely half of debut LP Don’t Suppose thrown into the mix!  There is also a fold out lyric sheet.

The full listing for this version of the album is:

Side 1:

Love in Your Eyes (Extended Version)

Nothing on Earth (Can Keep Me from You)

Colour All My Days

Don’t Send For Me

Love Will Tear the Soul

Tonight Will Be the Night

Side 2:

Shock

Working Out

I Was a Fool

Too Much Trouble

Only For Love

That Special Something

Never Ending Story

Inside to Outside

An odd mix to say the least!

Auburn – New Album – ‘Nashville’

January 3, 2014

Readers of KajaFax will be more than familiar with former Steve Askew collaborator Liz Lenten and her band Auburn. A friend of KajaFax, Liz is both a lovely lady and vocalist sublime….

New to KajaFax? Check out our interview with Liz Lenten HERE, as well as our review of Auburn’s  previous album, Indian Summer,  HERE.

mini

Incredible as it is, over 18 months has passed since ‘Indian Summer’ and in that time, Auburn have managed to play an incredible amount of live shows, both here in the UK and also in the United States. Inspired perhaps by being billed alongside legendary San Francisco outfit Jefferson Starship, Auburn had, by 2012, returned to the creative groove and were tentatively penning songs that were to form their next long-player. Seeds sown during those New Orleans performances had been growing and were about to bear fruit, and by mid 2013 Auburn were ready to return to America. Armed with a brace of songs and that all important studio time, Liz hit the United States via that most inspiring of US cities and musical epicentre, Nashville. In the studio and ready to roll, Auburn were primed and ready to lay those tracks down, with the multi award winning producer Thomm Jutz at the helm.

The results are nothing short of spectacular….

Auburn are unequivocally unique, and although comparable to some, their sound is truly like no other. With new album ‘Nashville’, they take us on a journey of discovery through many other influences hitherto unexplored. Blues, Country, Jazz….this album takes these musical disciplines and more, blending them in some bizarre display of alchemy, turning them into something special. Uniquely special.

Cover Art

‘Nashville’, the new album by Auburn, is released on February 10th and can be pre-ordered through Amazon via THIS LINKKajaFax are incredibly fortunate to have been gifted a copy by the band back in November, and it’s fair to say that the disc has been given some serious rotation since then!  In spite of its unique qualities, there are still parallels to be drawn between ‘Nashville’ and other classic artistes spanning many genres, some of which are very close to the Kajagoogoo camp (Limahl fans read on).  Clearly influenced by legends such as Billie Holliday and Bonnie Raitt, many other ingredients go into the mix to form the Auburn sound.  In ‘Nashville’, the band has an album to rival those of its US contemporaries, such as Madeleine Peyroux, Norah Jones, and the late Karen Dalton, artists the calibre of which Auburn are often favourably likened to.

Highlights for us here at KajaFax are ‘Crazy People’, a quirky number and amongst the more ‘pop’ oriented tracks on the album, the beautiful ‘Butterfly’, co-written with Mark Gustavina, and the seemingly Serge Gainsbourg inspired ‘If You Knew’, which for me personally takes the best elements of SG’s ‘Bubble Gum’ and twists it around, making a contemporary, modern pop piece.  The great Monsieur Gainsbourg would no doubt have relished the opportunity to have written something for Liz to work her vocal magic on…

Shades of Limahl are contained within ‘Full to the Brim’, an atmospheric production that delicately contains Liz’s emotionally charged bittersweet vocals amongst its ethereal constraints….  To mention smoke filled jazz clubs is too stereotypical, so I won’t!  Instead, think echoes of Limahl’s ‘The Waiting Game’, Henry Mancini’s ‘Lujon’, or even Andy Williams’ ‘Spooky’. Magical stuff.

The jewel in the crown of the album is ‘I Would Fall Down’, a full-on country styled track.  Written by Lenten and oozing quality and class, you could be forgiven for thinking that it was lifted straight out of the Michael Nesmith songbook….complete with Red Rhodes-esque guitar work.

Clearly, KajaFax can’t recommend this album highly enough!

Released via Scarlet Records on January 27th, why not order your copy?
