Islands Japanese LP and Test Pressing
KajaGooGoo were huge in Japan and this is shown in their discography.
These are two of my favourite items that I want to share, the Islands test pressing is just quirky and interesting whereas the Islands Japanese white label promo sample LP shows the extra level of detail that went into the superior Japanese release.
The first item is the Japanese test pressing of Islands with custom picture sleeve:

The second item is the Japanese release of Islands with Obi strip. This is the 9 track white label promo sample LP:

Insert sleeve is a four page booklet, with cover sculpture by Mick Karn:

Centre pages of inner:

Also with the release comes a giant poster which opens out like so:

There we have it, just a better package for the collector with the Japanese vinyl, I love it!

Wow!
I would love that!!
I have been a collector of Japanese vinyl, CDs, Promos etc for years and have so many beautiful items from the 80s by my favourite artists.
Japan had so many variants on UK releases, sometimes unique singles and albums altogether…not to mention the different sleeves, supreme quality card cases and sleeves, heavy vinyl and the picture discs and coloured vinyl is amazing.
A quirky format I love are the snap packs for 3″ CD singles, I have so many by Boy George, Bananarama, Dead Or Alive etc…and I am told there is one for ‘Never Ending Story’ but I have had no luck getting that one yet!!
Always something new to collect…even years on.
Do you blog your collection at all? If not, you should, it would be awesome to see that stuff!!
No, but I have thought about it…I have thousands of records, CDs, cassettes and memorabillia…it would be a task 🙂
I love the rush you get when you finally track down a record, especially an import or a Japanese piece when it’s complete with it’s inserts, posters, lyric books and obi strips…on some occasions the actual Yen receipt 🙂
I recently tracked down a Bananarama ‘Wild Life’ Canadian 12″ complete with it’s picture sleeve, inner slip bag, poster and sticker! That’s an amazing find as it was released in 1984…on top of that, it was mint condition.
I’m always on the look out for Kajagoogoo and Limahl items, sadly they didn’t release a great deal in England so imports are definitely the way to go for something unique.
Finding something so complete with the sticker etc is brilliant, you can’t believe some fan didn’t slap it on their mirror or something all those years ago!!
