Too Shy – 30 Year Anniversary Today!

January 10, 2013

Today is an important and significant day in the Kajagoogoo diary and (of course) the diaries of Kajagoogoo fans around the world, as it marks 30 years since the UK release of debut single ‘Too Shy’

emi-signing-july-1982

The song itself has an interesting history.

As we all know, EMI Records first signed the band in ’82, after which they were whisked away to the Manchester Square Studios to begin work on what was to become the White Feathers album.  Songs written during the Art Nouveau days were re-visited, this time with legendary EMI producer Ron Hill on board, as well as new tracks such as Interview Rooms and This Car Is Fast. It was much later during a rehearsal session that the track that was to become ‘Too Shy’ happened…..surprisingly after the bulk of the White Feathers album had been written!   Amazingly, and according to ‘Goo keyboard maestro Stuart Croxford Neale, the first draft of the song didn’t meet with record label approval.   Three re-writes later and the band, with the assistance of Nick Rhodes and Colin Thurston, knew that they had a hit.  Even then, not everybody was convinced as Limahl was to find out in the Christmas of ’82 when an EMI executive told him that the song “wouldn’t be a hit but might get the band noticed”….

We all know the video so well – here it is again for you to enjoy…

Even the striking artwork for the single was a Kajagoogoo ‘in-house’ design.

too shy front

We all know Too Shy as an ‘80s classic, UK and European #1, and top 5 hit in just about every other territory.  Computer games, remixes, cover versions, and movie appearances justify the ‘classic’ moniker.  The song even ranks at #27 on the VH-1 ‘Greatest Songs of the 80s’ poll.

Wouldn’t it be nice to see it reappear in the charts sometime in 2013?

Why not click on the below logo, download a copy,  and help make it happen?

You can’t keep a good song down!

Happy Goo Year 2013

December 31, 2012
by

From the team at KajaFax, we’d like to wish you all a very Happy New Year and thank you all sincerely for your continued support

This year has been a very interesting one for us and for the band members and we look forward to more exciting projects into 2013.

Limahl started the year bringing us the amazing single ‘1983’ and kicked off a great buzz working with the guys from Norway. He of course brought us all such joy by appearing in the jungle, a wonderful time which really got the community all together again. Ending the year in fine style with the single, ‘London For Christmas’, it’s certainly been a great year for Limahl and we hope for more in 2013.  It was very exciting for us to work closer with Limahl and be involved in official Facebook pages and feel a part of a great time. We extend our warmest thanks to Limahl for the courtesy he always shows KajaFax.

Nick was ever busy, releasing his series of books ‘Dangerous Potatoes’ and working very hard with many artists around the world such as Kim Wilde, Rick Wakeman, Steven Wilson and Steve Hackett.  We know Lifesigns is coming and a new album with Steven Wilson so exciting times ahead for Nick.  He is working with some incredible musicians and we are extremely proud of his achievements.

Steve has been busy in the studio working amongst others on new material with Lu Cozma and we will be focusing on this very soon so stay tuned.  A new EP is coming our way and we’re all very excited to get our hands on this.  If you are yet to pay close attention to the work of Lu and Steve, please do us a favour and make it so!

steve_askew-kajagoogoo

A quiet year for Stuart publically, though it was a major delight for fans to see him appear on stage with Limahl in Belfast. Don’t stray too far from that keyboard Stu!!

12 WG kajagoogoo sheet

A quiet year also for Jez publically, we hope to see Jez back behind his kit soon, though we know he is extremely busy with work.

For us, we achieved our second full year ‘in business’ and this has been a great one for the site. We smashed through the 250k hits barrier and had a spell of breaking our highest hits in one day record, a few times in a row!!  We’re seeing stats stay consistent and this is very encouraging to know an average day on KajaFax will see around 1000 views, slower days are still seeing over 500 views.

We look forward to changes in 2013 as we look to keep things fresh for our readers and we always encourage and welcome your feedback.

KajaFax would like to extend a colossal thanks to Steve Yeo who single handedly organised the 2012 KajaHunt and provided all the prizes for that competition.  A lot of hard work from Steve went into that and it was great fun for all the entrants. We’d also like to thank those entrants of the competition who mostly all took the extra time to say kind words about the site and these really do mean such a lot. Positive feedback lets us know we’re doing something interesting for you all.

So, all that remains for us is to wish you and your families the very best for the New Year.  We hope 2013 brings you peace, love, good times and KajaGooGoo.

KajaHunt’ Treasure Hunt Competition Day 24

christmas-eve-window

Welcome to the final day of the 2012 KajaHunt!

Here is the final question for the 2012 competition.

2009tour

Which London Borough was host to Kajagoogoo in 2009 as part of the UK ‘Space Cadet’ Tour ?

OK…..all being well, you should now have 24 answers!

Here is what to do with those answers…

You need to take THE FIRST LETTER from each answer, and then with those 24 letters unscramble the anagram to make a Kajagoogoo related phrase or sentence!

To make life a little bit easier, here is the word formation that you are looking for:

– – – – -/- – – – – – – /- – – – – / – – / – – – – – (5,7,5,2,5)

The more correct answers you have built up so far, the more chance you’ll have of beating the anagram and solving the puzzle!

The competition ends at midnight on Friday 28th December 2012.

I THINK I HAVE THE ANSWER, WHAT NOW?!

Congratulations, you are true Goo!!

Send your final answer to admin@kajafax.com and please be sure to state your name.

We will use a random number generator to assign a number to Prize Pack A, B and C.

We will also use a random number generator to select three winners.  First winner takes the pack assigned to number 1 and so on.

We wish you the best of luck and if you’ve taken the time to play along with our competition, thank you!

The KajaFax team are excited. It’s official.  72 hours until Christmas Day!

Are you all ready???

pud

Ready or not, we have today’s question primed and ready to roll!

We all know about the White Feathers album and the involvement of Duran Duran’s Nick Rhodes and producer Colin Thurston.

There was another soon to be legend loose at the mixing desk back in ’83. Today’s question relates to that mystery man!

Please watch the below video:

Here comes today’s puzzler….

What was the name of  the producer (shown in the video) that was responsible for the early Kajagoogoo B-Sides as well as the eponymous album track?

**Note: It is the Christian name (FIRST name) of this person that forms the answer to today’s question**

KajaHunt’ Treasure Hunt Competition Day 21

Christmas Tree

Nearly there!!! It’s almost Christmas as the KajaHunt entries keep coming.

Don’t miss out – submit yours as soon as you know the answer and secure your chance to win a prize!

Today’s question is about Steve Askew.

steve_askew-kajagoogoo

Steve is, for those who don’t know, the Kajagoogoo guitarist.  He is also a producer, songwriter, and vital cog in the Kajagoogoo machine!  He has many other projects outside of Kajagoogoo and it is one such project that we are interested in today.

Here comes today’s question:

Which ‘mammal’ did Steve walk over thin ice back in 1987?

KajaHunt’ Treasure Hunt Competition Day 20 original_santa-s-sleigh-christmas-table-decoration

We are fast approaching the end of the competition and have already had a few correct answers.  Don’t worry though, there are still a few more clues left if you have not yet worked out the conundrum 🙂

Today, we feature ‘Goo keyboard master Stuart Croxford Neale.

islands14

Stuart is not only the keyboard genius of Kajagoogoo, but is also an incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist and all round really nice guy!  KajaFax caught up with him ‘after-show’ at a live gig earlier in the year and he was only too happy to chat to us about the gig, the band, and of course KajaFax!  Posts about him are relatively few on on this site but always prove incredibly popular.  The fans love him 🙂

Here is today’s question.

What is the name of the venue in Belfast that Limahl and Stuart Croxford Neale played in October of 2012?

Important!!
