Rare and Unusual Merchandise: Limahl Jigsaw
In a recent article we presented a great piece of vintage official memorabilia with the US manufactured Kajagoogoo jigsaw puzzle. Not to be beaten on the merchandising front, (unofficial) team Limahl responded with this really cool Limahl puzzle! At 300 pieces, it’s not a whopper, but nevertheless still a lot of fun to complete. Here it is, completed (albeit with two missing pieces) and photographed.

New Album feat Nick Beggs: Lonely Robot
Great news for lovers of Kajagoogoo’s very own spaceman Nick Beggs, as new album Please Come Home is released and in stores from today.

We have had this on the KajaFax homepage for a while, which hopefully many of you will have noticed.
The album is a project headed by It Bites singer John Mitchell, and features Nik Kershaw, Go West’s Peter Cox, and Steve Hogarth from Marillion amongst others. The ‘Rocket Boy’ himself provides bass guitar on the album which in itself makes it an essential purchase.
Released via Century Media on CD and Vinyl, ‘Please Come Home’ can be purchased via Amazon HERE, or from Burning Shed HERE.
The facebook page for the album is HERE.

Rare and Unusual Merchandise: Kajagoogoo Jigsaw
A few years ago, KajaFax posted an article on unusual band merchandise, which featured such things as patches, pens, fridge magnets, bottle openers and the legendary Gimpy Dak offices giant paperclip! What we have now is something that until a few months ago, none of us here at team KajaFax knew existed.
Published in 1983 by Starmakers in the United States of America, we present this 550+ piece Kajagoogo jigsaw puzzle. Officially licensed by the Concert Publishing Company and in collaboration with Gimpy Dak Ltd, the puzzle features Kajagoogoo in late 1983 – ‘Big Apple’ era. Not ones to avoid a challenge, we have completed the puzzle which is all present and correct after over 30 years of storage.

In fact, the puzzle is in lovely condition and is a brilliant piece of band merchandise.
We think that there must be more of these things around, certainly from the White Feathers era, and needless to say if we find any we will share them with you.
If you yourself have anything like this, please let us know!

Kajagoogoo Vintage Concert Review – Derby 1983
Sometimes, a piece of merchandise or memorabilia comes your way that you will only ever see one of. Newspaper clippings tend to fall into that category, as the papers they originate from are rarely kept – especially if they are local rather than national papers. For our fourth article of 2015, we wanted to give you the opportunity to read this review of the eighteenth date of the White Feathers tour, which took place at the Derby Assembly Rooms on May 25th 1983.

So far as we know, there is no recorded audio of this performance in circulation, and we hold no ticket stubs or photographs from this particular show. If you have any, or if you were there, please get in touch!
This is what the reporter of the Derby Evening Telegraph had to say all those years ago….

KajaHunt Prize: Gig Recollections
The article for today is the sort of thing that we here at KajaFax HQ really love. Fan contributions are our favourite type of feature, and what we have for you now is nothing short of brilliant, especially as it has been triggered, in part, by the recent KajaHunt competition.

Those who followed the 2014 competition will know that Suzy Purnell from Suffolk was the winner of our top prize, but what you may not be aware of is how big a Kajafan she actually is! Suzy was absolutely thrilled to be named as our winner on New Year’s Day and has since received her prize package. The story didn’t end there though, as Suzy explains:
“I have been a Kajagoogoo fan since the beginning, and ‘White Feathers’ is still one of my favourite and most played albums even now. Your prize has certainly gone to a real fan! I was hooked from the very beginning, and have never really stopped listening to their music. It was definitely Limahl whom I idolised and that made me decide at the age of 17 to give up show jumping and turn to acting and singing. All I wanted to do was perform! I have just been listening to the CD of the White Feathers tour and been transported back all those years to the Hammersmith Odeon and being a screaming teenager! I have sent a photo of a presentation that I have put together which I am really thrilled with. Not only did I add my concert ticket, but have also found a photo of the venue that I went to as well to tie it all together. This was the very first concert I ever went to – I was 16 years old and so excited to be seeing Kajagoogoo. I hope you feel that I did the prize justice; I think it looks great and it takes pride of place in my music room! The calendar is also up but is too nice to write on, so I will just admire the pictures each month and then put it away for safe keeping as a great collector’s item. All the very best to you, and thanks to you both for running such a great site for all us Kaja fans. Long may KajaFax continue!”
KajaFax are not only thrilled that Suzy was so happy with her prize, but also that she has shared with us now these great memories and indeed images from back in ’83. Both nights at the Hammersmith Odeon were, of course, recorded and can still be enjoyed to this day.
Here are the pictures – a huge thanks to Suzy for sharing them:

To finish off this article we have something interesting (if you happen to speak Norwegian).
Broadcast on Norway’s NRK Radio, ‘Transmission’ is a weekly radio show. Billed as The Sound of the 80’s, this week’s broadcast has listed amongst other things a section called ‘Colin Thurston: From Bowie to Limahl’. It can be streamed in the below banner until mid July:

The Nick Beggs Charity Auction – Update
KajaFax receive a lot of contributions for the site, sent in by fans of the band. Today’s such contribution is particularly pleasing as it showcases an item that is a true ‘one-off’, and thus one that nobody else will ever be able to own….

Hand drawn by Nick Beggs for the Multiple Sclerosis Society back in November, this specially commissioned Christmas Card raised a whopping £91 for the charity, and we are pleased to announce that the winning bid came from an ardent Kajagoogoo fan!

Congratulations to Denny, not only for raising that much needed cash for the MS Society, but also for bringing the card ‘home’ where it should be – with a true fan of the band. Luckily for us, Denny is also a really nice guy, and was only too happy to contact us shortly after Christmas with some photos and a closer look at the card:

Many thanks to Denny for photographing the card and sharing these pictures !
To finish off today’s article, we have a brief interview with the Beggion.
Published in Ultimate Basses magazine, Nick talks kit with a man known only as ‘The Chancellor’….
You can read it HERE.
See you next time!
