Kajagoogoo and Limahl Fan Club Enquiry Letters

July 4, 2013

Hello again!

Today, we are very pleased to bring you scanned images of some brilliant items donated to the KajaFax collection by Kajafan Dawn.

We recently featured some video footage detailing Limahl’s original split from Kajagoogoo and promised to feature some actual letters issued by the band (and EMI Records) on both the Kajagoogoo launch and also their fragmentation prior to the recording of the Islands album.  If you missed that post, you can view it HERE .

Without further ado, we present are the scans of those original letters.

We start with the standard EMI response to fan enquiries (the fan club did not exist at that time) and then follow with the post split letter and factsheet as issued by the Limahl camp.

Wow, another fantastic look into good old fanzines and fan club letters… How different it all was! These are really precious items, wonderful to see and have in the Kajafax archive.
Yes it would be nice to meet Limahl, that’ s a good idea.
Why don’ t we try to arrange a meeting in London for a vegetarian lunch or a five o’clock tea with him as a sort of Limahl fan celebration day?
    Cheers Steve!

      Hi Cris,

A fan celebration day is indeed a great idea. Lots of bands have ‘convention’ type fan celebration days – TV shows too have them (Star Trek, Dr Who etc….).

It’s a lovely idea, and if I thought for one second that we could pull it off and make a Kajagoogoo fan day a success then I would not hesitate. Alas, I suspect that any such event would be poorly attended – mainly because the fanbase is so widely spread over Europe as well as the UK. In principal though I like it – hire a venue and a DJ, set up a memorabilia exhibit section, get some caterers in and as the icing on the cake have one or more band members pay a visit. A great way for fans to meet and mix.

I’m afraid that as good an idea as it is, in reality it’s unlikely to happen 😦

One way to judge the interest on an idea like this would indeed be via this site I suppose. It is unlikely to be discussed hidden away in this comments section I know, but as a full page feature we may have a better idea of any potential interest in a ‘Kajavent’ type of day. Maybe if we were to get enough emails about it, we could talk about it seriously….. I would have to have a chat with Steve C 🙂

    Dear Steve,
Thank you as always for your replies full of enthusiasm!
You have come up with a project of proportions that I honestly had not thought about! And you are perfectly right, it would be difficult to set up logistically… I as well have let myself be driven by spontaneous enthusiasm and affection for our musical heroes who are such nice people to spand your time with as well (we Kajafans are lucky), and have proposed something quite difficult to achieve.
Even so, in reality when I wrote the message I had really thought of a very simple dinner or tea not to take too much time away from Limahl and his personal engagements. Just a gathering of people who may be happy to meet up taking advantage, say of any offer that Ryanair may have for a cheap ticket to get to London and spend a day off with new friends and a few hours with your favourite musician just strolling around getting to know each other and talking about your favourite music an. I realise now that it would be easier for people coming from the rest of the UK maybe; but to pull out a few days to leave work and catch a plane for London from the rest of Europe may really be not that easy…
But it is a nice thing to think about! You have created, among other things, a wonderful network of global friends, and thank you for that.

I would like to have dinner with Limahl. Spend 24/7 with him.
